Thank you GLBT, our Trojan Horse!
In my recent blog post titled "Dear NADQ (National Association of the Deaf Queers)" I began to realize something quite essential. The Trojan Horse has invaded NAD! Much to our surprise this Trojan Horse was filled with GLBT warriors. I'm not kidding you here. The GLBT has invaded NAD (National Association of the Deaf) and applied enough pressure and changed their long held course. NAD's former course used to for and about deaf people. But now, thanks to GLBT warriors and their Trojan Horse, they have managed to seize NAD and possibly permanently altered their course. There might be no opportunity for them to reverse their course unless they quickly take corrective action by publicly recognize every deaf minorities including deaf Christians, deaf Muslims, deaf Islamists, deaf Blacks, deaf Women, deaf Hispanics, deaf Native Americans and every other deaf minorities. And yes, they should also recognize minority deaf Buckaroo like me. You know, we got our own lifestyle as well as culture and language as well.
But in all honesty I sincerely hope that NAD does not correct itself. Most deaf people I know do not recognize or appreciate NAD. Most of them do not see NAD as a representative body. Many see NAD as nothing more than a small group of Deaf elitists. It would not be a major loss to us if GLBT seized NAD and controlled their affairs from this point and forward. GLBT would be doing us, deaf people in general a huge favor. We would be free of NAD oppression. We would no longer be of an interest to NAD because we're not queers. For those who tries to be a queer, be aware... you might not be queer enough. Believe me, NAD has done this to millions of deaf people who were not culturally and linguistically deaf enough. They were not the big "D". In essence it would not surprise me if they start a new 'not queer enough' saga. It would be the least concern of mine but they've done this before.
I look forward to the day when GLBT controlled NAD are going to dismiss us (straight deaf and Deaf people as well as d/Deaf Christians) because we're not queers or because we're not queer enough. That'd be the day... the day of our liberty... the day when we would no longer be oppressed by NAD's false representation. Not kidding you here. I can see this happening, really.
Back to the point of this blog... I'm having second thoughts. I think that this GLBT Trojan Horse is probably the best thing that has ever happened to deaf people in general who have been snubbed by NAD. They're doing us a huge favor. They've infiltrated NAD and turned them into something more... something else that has nothing to do with our deafness. Who would have thought of mixing our national deaf organization with our sex lives and/or sexual lifestyle. That's really creative, just like the Trojan Horse. I'm so impressed. Just brilliant! In all honesty I could see myself rallying behind this GLBT Trojan Horse pretty soon, if not already.
For those who have low opinion of National Association of the Deaf, kindly take your hats off and bow towards GLBT community. We give them our blessings.

What does GLBT stand for? I'm a little lost.
ReplyDeleteSorry VooDoo Island. GLBT stands for Gay, Lesbian, Bi, Tri. Not long ago NAD made an official statement / announcement saying they support GLBT and their rights to get married. I don't have a problem with that but what does does NAD have to do with our sex lives / lifestyle?

Interesting but I doubt people skills has anything to do with their sex lifestyle. There are many unskilled gay people as well many skilled gay people. Straight people are no different.

It is refreshing to see group of people who are crying for basic fundamental rights being restored. This is what makes America great. The ability to agree to disagree. The ability to embrace diverse opinions. The ability to be able to speak out on our own thoughts and beliefs. When some group comes in and labels us hate - they have drawn the line. They are just blowing hot air to gain some political agenda. This is a glorified fest for deaf leaders. I saw how far disconnected NAD is with grassroot deaf america. I am a proud Native American Deaf Christian Woman who teaches my children the value of being an american. We have the right to freedom. What GLBT is doing is hurting diversity. The trojan horse is going to come out during NAD convention. The leaders are encouraging us to come and get involved with the convention. WE need to be unified and fight for deaf rights. But it goes too far when they decide to appease a group like GLBT. Maybe it's time we speak out. They are losing their vision. They are losing their voice. They use to maintain integrity since they were the ones who empowered deaf to become pilots, politicians, teachers, pastors, interpreters, lawyers, doctors, entrepreneurs, realtors, engineers, and many amazing careers.
ReplyDeleteDawnena, I completely agree with you. Sometimes a group of loud people are being loud for one reason. To silence other group of people. It's hot air but when the push comes to shove, we can be loud too. The last thing we should do is turn ourselves into conformists. We must never abandon our critical thinking skills because that is what GLBT really hate about us. A very high percentage of my stalkers and haters are GLBT people. They hate the fact that I saw things differently. It eats them up, alive and they react accordingly. And yes, all the more reason for us to become unified and fight for what we believe in. After being on this NAD boycott for approximately 26 or 27 years I have very little hope for this organization. I'm beginning to hope for its demise. They're no longer our ally. They've turned into some kind of beast, which is unfortunate.

Not any different with GLBT community's opposing tactics on Daugaard's plenary speech on "political activism" for d/Deaf ppl.
Not politically correct enuf.
The speaking engagement has nothing to do with sexual orientation or sexual/religious oppression, yet some ppl want to drag in the background of the governor's actions into this ONE SPEECH, which is just about political activism in the deaf community. Nobody wants to know what the guv, with his political and CODA experience, has to say. Too bad, he canceled his appearance.
The intolerance of a different point-of-view, even the view of a conservative Republican, speaks volumes about what the culturally Deaf and deaf GLBT communities practice in turn.
So much for PC and nit-pickin' special interests. Reminds me of another political entity. Our Congress.

DeleteInteresting that you, Ann, mentioned this. According to what's going around now, don't know the original source - Out of the 11 board members, three did not support Daugaard. Guess who those three are? Yes, they are the infiltrators. What we'll see in the years to come, a power struggle within NAD.
ReplyDeleteDaugaard wasn't going to give a speech on how he voted or his views, but the political process. Their loss.
What's next is to see who will win the NAD presidency, VP, and so on. Remember, of the three that opposes Daugaard, one or more of them will run. Funny how, we have not seen who the candidates are.
I just noticed something. There are some people who have been attacking NAD are from the same group and insider of NAD for many decades that have powered and engineered NAD. Who are they? NAD was operated, and still operating by a lot of erratic people who are from Gallaudet's desperate fraternity and sorority, pro-ASL community, Deaf, anti-"d"eaf, anti-deafless, closed society, and close-minded people. Those corrupt people who are now hating NAD after they engineered NAD? NAD is badly screwed up and partly left behind by those people. GLBT is being added to the list, or already did. NAD could be excellent organization only if it was ran by completely different group of people for many decades.

I would like to bring up something that I had been pondering. I know it will bring up a new discussion. I hope you don’t mind to bring a new topic in this discussion under your blog.
When I first read the NAD’s announcement on the GBLT’s marriage equality right, I thought we all need to discuss to establish a new deaf civil right association to compete with the NAD to bring a better service to represent every deaf and hard-of-hearing.
I want to bring in a context before we go into a new discussion. I so grateful to live in America because we (Americans) protect our inalienable personal freedom and liberty. Our economy is based on capitalism. Our government is based on republic system. (Please don’t be confused with the ‘Republic’ and the ‘Republican Party’) I could understand why many people in the world would do every means to find a way to move and live in America. If you are an American; you are truly blessed to live in America (please do not neglect your privileged right to vote). Not many people understood how our Nation was formed, and I am not surprised to see many problems with NAD and in the America’s politics. If they truly understood how our country was formed and then they would have done something with NAD and our politics.
I have been studying on the Austrian Economics by Ludwig Von Mises. The Austrian Economics teaches an economy will thrive when every of services and products are competitive. A competitive community brings the community into a new level.
NAD is only one well-known association that fights our deaf rights. I was wondering why didn’t someone established an association is that being compete with NAD in name, “to promote, protect, and preserve the civil, human and linguistic rights of deaf and hard of hearing individuals in the United States of America"? I have been hearing NAD has the problems with favoritism in its leadership and in general, and it doesn’t represent every deaf and hard-of-hearing in America. Therefore, I am not surprised with those problems because NAD isn’t being competitive with an association to represent every deaf and hard-of-hearing Americans.
I couldn’t wait to see a new association that would provide a service to protect, fight, and promote our deaf and hard-of-hearing better than NAD. In America we could do that. Why don’t you take the lead to create a new association? May I propose a name for the new association? “Republic of Deaf and Hard-of-Hearing Americans” (RDHHA).
