Deafhood Church Is Here. What's Next?

This embedded video done by NLDesierto from youtube, formerly known as deafjeff. It's shown here for your review. Don't worry if they delete this video because I saved the video on my hard drive, for the record, including video comments generated by David (DeafChip), Mike (DeafOIC), Mike Gallangher, and several others who cheered on.

David (deafchip) excitedly said he wanted to join! He went even further to poke fun at Total Communication, something that would go against his words in the past. He used to defend the sincerity of deafhood and claim to respect other people's choices but it does not appear to be the case any more. He's loosely joking about it now. These are the same people that have been trying to convince us that it's nothing more than a serious personal journey. David, if you are reading this you're probably going to rush over to the site and delete your comments before the whole world sees it. Worry not, I saved your comments into my hard drive as well.

Not very long ago they talked of this so-called deaf bible by Paddy Ladd, calling it a Bible. (Note: I saved that video in my hard drive as well) And then this.... Deafhood Church. I could care less if it's only a joke. That is not the question here. The question is how careless can they get? I've been keeping track of their carelessness as they continue to shoot themselves in the foot.

I'm blogging about it because these people labored long and hard trying to lend some credibility to deafhood movement and yet in the same breath they turn around and make a mockery of the theory themselves. I'm not complaining about how dumb they want to be. In fact they are helping my cause by inflicting the damages but I am surprised at how they continue to shoot themselves in the foot. Think about it. There are numerous deaf people out there who committed their time, energy, money and participate in some of the deafhood workshops. Some of them received trainings so that they are able to teach on the subject. These people took deafhood issues seriously and yet these same deafhood leaders poked fun at the theory. Does that make sense? Have they not considered how some of their participants might feel about it? Apparently not.

I sat in this chair and pondered on this subject as I tried to make some sense out of it. I wondered if they were really that stupid. Two quick answer came up.

One, yes, they must be.

Two, they are evidently without souls.

It might begin to explain why they are constantly doing their soul searching with hope to discover their so-called deaf center. They would not be looking if they had their souls in the first place, would they? Is it why they are in search for a new Bible and a new church. Just a joke, you say? Then this begs the question. Why joke about it? They're joking about it to see if it would actually generate enough support and interest. History will teach us that numerous projects started out as a wild idea and even a joke, on purpose, with hope to see if it'd generate enough support and interest. Naturally they're going to claim it as a joke but down deep on the inside they might be testing the water.

Personal journey? Unfortunately no. It's a trap. Good luck to those who fell for it. Should not be too difficult to get out while you can still... these people are not too bright.

  2. Idiot, yes. Just gotta keep teaching knowing your students won't know what to believe any more? That's going to make your job even more difficult.

  3. Hi Barry, I saw your comment to Fred. I smiled and am doing good. :)

I watched the video that you posted, and saw ASLELLA's vlog few days ago in ASLROCKS. I am not surprised seeing this type of stupidity behavior making such an idiot out of themselves like this. What will the hearing people who are signers out there watching this, what would they think of this?

  4. Check this out.

1:19 -1:25 ="We invite you to remove English"

1:26-1:34 = "We wish ([read his lip, he add "to") invite you to stop blog...".

Didn't he just say that in English? Good riddance. I believe he is a sheep in wolves' clothing. How can he sign English to invite others to remove English. Isn't that stupid (ironic).
I know he is entertaining his hoodians, but I believe he hides behind comedy to disparage English.

Maybe he does not care about Deaf-ood, but he is trying to please his momma. Just maybe.

I only saw two comment @ his You Tube site.

Thanks for sharing. You need to be careful when you download those kinds of videos and comments to your hard drive. You ever heard of 'virus'?

    Need I say more? ;)

  5. Thank you BBF for pointing out the obvious. The more they talk the more we're able to see their true colors. They came up with aufism because they hate hearing people. They hate oralists and Cochlear Implants but denied it initially only to spill the beans frequently. Ella created a video comment few days ago disclosing a healthy disdain for people that support oralism and cochlear implant, something she denied many times. I saved her video comment into my hard drive as well. And now this... they're asking us to quit blogging because it contains English language.

And yes, this vlogger in the video said it in English. Sheep in wolves' clothing? Absolutely! Isn't that stupid (ironic)? Absolutely. That's what amazes me.

Laughed out loud when you expressed concern for the health of my hard drive. That was funny. Didn't you know some people actually collect virus in order to study them?

  6. Right Deb... can't these deafhoodized people see that they're constantly shooting themselves in the foot? Constant stupidity is a really weird thing to witness, let alone watching it.

I was glad to see Fred under my latest vlog. I felt grateful that he was okay. Scary moments there.

  7. My recent blog must've been an inspiration. Hmmm...a 501(c) non-profit church?

  8. This is a typical "deafjeff" video.

There's a lot of contradictions in that mocking video as well as many others he has made. I have to remind you all that he blogs. And, he writes poetry, too.

Pretty dumb is all I can say.

Mike aka OIC made a comment that Deafjeff was right on many points. But, it's another contradiction because he just corrected another vlogger on her title: Is ASLrocks Diversity? and told her that it should be: Is ASLrocks Diverse?

Are they both the kind of people that values English but does not want others to have that skill? And, the reasoning behind that would be..hmm... it's not that hard to figure it out.

  9. Thank you for put it up here and It not what i expect to see like this...
Hope they just fool around otherwise make themselve a fool out of it!
Some of his comment of rejects, we must have it!

  10. The nature of us humans (An admirable one in most respects), is we tend to get angry when the 'underdog' is under the cosh. While these underdogs are determined to despise or attack anything remotely spoken or heard, the rest of us are trying to bridge the divides. There are still many people however who see these underdogs as oppressed, and that resonates in deaf terms, so even if most DO think deafhood is as much use as a chocolate teapot, they will form support for it on that basis.

America the land where anyone can do what they want, is an ideal ground for a number of extreme cults and churches, that is why it caught on there, and Britisih laughed at it, or just ignored it. Since day one Paddy Ladd has refused to act or explain his deafhood properly, hell, most American deaf need the format in Sign to get any idea what he is saying. I put him up signing on my blog, I would dearly love to know how many of his American devotees actually have no problem following every word.

He seems content to let the divisions spread in the American Deaf area at least, without ever stating deafhood is not about hate, is not about anti-hearing, is not about paranoia and everyone is out to annihilate the deaf 'community' which he has identified in such a manner as to make it us and them.

He should realise many deaf feel isolated, and vulnerable and rely on each other, his book (Widely misread or simply altered in America to suit their idea of it), is feeding all this, if he was a real deaf person concerned with the deaf ID, and community, he would have acted to clarify, and defuse what is going on, instead, he seems happy he is the man of the moment.

No such thing as bad press as we know ! We cannot hold him responsible for how people see his work, but, he can at least clarify hating, and anti-hearing, or CI's is NOT a message of his 'deafhood' or indeed any civilised community.

  11. Hi Candy,

Yes, it's a typical "deafjeff" video. I know he blogs too and I doubt he'd be able to survive in this world if he relied on ASL alone. He would be isolated in an instant!

Thanks for sharing a tidbit on Mike aka OIC. That was interesting. Same could be said about Carl Schoeder who criticize people for their English skills and yet minimize people's ASL. He's only confusing people in order to control them.

You're right... they are not difficult to figure out.

  12. Point well taken MM. You pointed out the obvious. Paddy is riding the 'fame' waves and because it's doing wonders for his bank account(s). Thanks for your insights.

  13. Didn't you get it? The satire is about YOU.

    ReplyDelete
  14. Oh really Dianrez. Are you that stupid too?

A joke or a satire? Okay by me but that is not the point of this blog. Try expanding your brain cells and read this blog again. You might, just might understand it better the second time around.

  15. theHolism,
Only the special few collects virus.

Wow! Drew Carey looks different. Anyway...(Watching Price is Right).

Is Dianrez for real? I sure do not see that "satire is about YOU", as she put it. She must be that stuuuuuuuuuuuupid.

    B

It is DEAFinly not about you. It is about their own self-deprecating humor. That is all.

    ReplyDelete
  16. Unbelievable, eh? This is where it really become interesting... seeing people like Dianrez who would keep shooting themselves in the foot like that. We're witnessing dynasty on stupidity here.

  17. Look at the video again. Jeff is using the words that you have used, the language you have used. It's a takeoff on your views of deafhood, audism, etc. by personifying it. Okay, dismiss me by calling me names and depreciating my ability to read. That's your perogative. Nice tactics.

    ReplyDelete
  18. Sure Dianrez. Give me all the credit you want and I'll gladly take them. I see a really big headline in my head that reads... "Barry slung and struck the Deaf Goliath!". Make me famous if you want to. That don't matter. What matters here is you've continued to miss the point of this blog. Try again?

    ReplyDelete
  19. Er, Dianrez, he said:

"I could care less if it's only a joke. That is not the question here. The question is how careless can they get?"

Doesn't matter if it was a joke/satire (about him, or anybody else). The question was the carelessness of that video. Hence, the credibility about "deafhood" and what it supposed to stand for when you have some Deaf leaders who continue to contradict that concept and themselves while at the same time pretend to hold to the concept of "deafhood." In short, we're seeing two different pictures here. And they don't jive with each other.

    ReplyDelete
  20. Exactly Mike and thank you for taking the time to explain.

    ReplyDelete
  21. Dianrez,

Your ability to "read" or your inability to "interpret"?

I watched this vlog again. Nothing that Barry said.
You need to give us an example of what words Barry used that Jeff used here. Show me. Do not play games and tell me that if I don't see it to bad or something like that. Show us the comparison.

    B

  22. Right, deafhood is supposed to be a personal journey of discovering what it means to be d/Deaf. Instead we get these views from deafhood leaders that contradict that concept. "Do this, but not that" in order to seek deafhood is nothing more than a directive.

Oh, sure, I get the joke part, parodying Barry's "hoodized ppl" and "closed society" remarks, a kind of SNL take. But it is still careless to come across as being against English and for ASL, when deafhood leaders claim to not be against bilingualism. Hearing parents are sure to pick up the contradictions if they come into the deaf cyberspace to do their research.

  23. And you know what? People like us with varying degrees of hearing loss whether born with it or acquired it later in life, the preferred mode of communication and/or language we use, and the breadth of understanding that we have for people with hearing loss without the need to get into petty politics of control and "cultural representation"; we represent the ideal open society of deaf and hh people who support each other regardless of who and what we are. And when hearing parents of deaf/hh children see this side of the coin I'm sure they'll be more than relieved to see that such an open and accepting society actually exists.
