Audism Failed!

Somebody by the name of Jamerica posted a very interesting vlog, sharing why he thought Audism has failed. I thought he raised a valid point, coming from a Christian's point of view. It's common knowledge that people DO pray and ask to be healed. Assuming a deaf person made a decision to ask for such blessing from God or Jesus Christ with such faith that he or she will be healed. And this person is healed. Do we call God or Jesus an audist? Surely not.

Based on the Bible, Jesus has healed some people with different form of disabilities therefore this individual, Jamerica raised a very important question. Don't know about you but for me his argument is the very stake that killed the heart of audism unless you are an atheist.

  1. I think you are both wrong.

    Leviticus 19:14

    King James Bible
Thou shalt not curse the deaf, nor put a stumbling-block before the blind, but shalt fear thy God: I am the LORD.

  2. Hi Wassup4762. We are not talking about cursing. We're talking about helping. Since when is helping somebody a case of cursing?

  3. Eh? Wassup4762, would love to see you try and answer that one.

  4. It was God who created the word "Audism".

Thou art worthy, O Lord, to receive glory and honour and power: FOR THOU HAST CREATED ALL THINGS, and for thy pleasure they are and were created.

  5. Nice try Edward. Since when did you believe that Dr. Tom Humphries is our God?

Secondly, thank you for acknowledging an important fact here; Created ALL THINGS, including the men that made Cochlear Implants possible. Really appreciate the message.

  6. Well, on a more earthly plane, lol, taks a gander at Matt Ellis' vlog here at DR. A respectful plea for an even playing field for all options.

  7. I saw the vlog but did not see it as an even playing field, simply because he did not bother to mention a lot of things that were in the bill. Sorry to say this but this is cherry-picking video by Matt.

  8. I did not say it was an even playing field. I said it was a plea for one as we all know what the predominate options are and the one that gets the short end of the stick.

  9. Ha, ha. I really enjoyed this blog/vlog and reading the comments. I am not going to comment since I am not religious.

  10. Well then Tousi, that plea failed before it even had a chance.

  11. I wonder what the solution is since the reps of ASL and all of it's non-medical benefits were not invited to participate in the process.....an amendment to this amendment?

  12. Tousi, you want real solution? Have these deafhoodized people learn politics. Have them learn how a bill is drafted and get some training in this field, like I did. Only then will they begin to realize all the wrong things they've done.

One does not get invited into the process. They don't call people out and ask them to participate. The legislatures are 'big shots' and they do think and act that way. It is their nature and understandably so. They are busy people and have full schedule all the time. I know because I've been around them. It's the people that always have to knock on their door and pursue issues that they're covering. They are always forthcoming and willing to tell us everything we need and want to know. And yes they do listen, really. They are sincere people. But if one demonstrated political incorrectness then you can just go home. You're going to waste your time.

Not invited? That's the term I hear every where and it only tells the politicians that they are not SAVVY politicians. Not somebody to be reckoned with. Get the drift? You walk into a medical field and say something that does not demonstrate medical language and the rest of the doctors are going to immediately know how green you are. Walk into a business meeting and say something that does not reflect business language and they're going to know how green you are. It's no different in the politic world.

When will the deaf community understand this?

  13. Good argument, Holism. Well said. Point taken! Anyone care to differ?

  14. The argument here is flawed - he says that God blesses the doctors as they do good - what about abortionist doctors - does he think that God blesses them?!!!
Also he argued that black/white, male/female, would not be changed by Jesus because it is the way of the Lord. Well my argument is that it is God that made us deaf - check this out:
Exodus 4:11 KJV • "And the LORD said unto him, Who hath made man's mouth? or who maketh the dumb, or deaf, or the seeing, or the blind? have not I the LORD?"
Jesus does not go along and heal people regardless of their desires - He heals people who ask for healing - if they are not comfortable in themselves being deaf then so be it get healed but it is not forced on us all.. So it is a natural state to be Deaf - to suggest otherwise is to go against the Biblical verse above and audism???
For me audism is the perceived superiority of one group against the other (not necessarily hearing against deaf - it can be deaf against hearing too mostly in the form of discrimination against native signers who happen to be hearing like CODAs)..

  15. Flawed argument here? Not according to my opinion.

God do bless us with the miracles and wonders of our technologies, in which the doctors use them as 'tools' to help us. Jamerica never said that all doctors were perfect. There are bad doctors as well as good doctors but the point is God blessed us with some of the most wonderful doctors that are out there but it does not mean there are no such thing as bad doctors. You response in 'all or nothing' is flawed.

God made us deaf. I don't disagree with that and I don't think that Jamerica would either. We all know that God made us deaf but it does not mean we're going to stay deaf. God never said he'd make us deaf so that we'd stay that way. He has the power to heal us just as he has the power to teach us to appreciate some of the things we did not appreciate initially. Life is full of lessons and our deafness is one of the tool God use to teach us many things about life. It does not mean we were designed to stay deaf. No where in the Bible does it say that we're supposed to stay that way and go to heaven that way. Your argument in that respect is flawed.

I agree with your argument on how Jesus would not go along and heal people regardless of their desires. I agree that he heals people who ask for healing and if they are not comfortable in themselves being deaf then so be it, they get healed but it is not forced on us. I agree, totally. The point Jamerica made was, would any of you quote Jesus as audist if he made the decision to heal us? I don't see an answer coming from you.

  16. Late posting here. This concept has been around for a while. Most notable was a blog piece by Paotie "Jesus Hates Deaf People". If you haven't read it, please do. It is one of the most funniest and smartest piece he has ever written.

That's the thing, ya know? Why did Jesus heal the deaf as stated in the Bible? And, was he an acdist? nah.

  17. Hi Candy.... you cracked me up when you spelled acdist. Gotta say I love ya!
