EHDI Karl White's Position

So... what is Karl White's (Director of EHDI) position on the matter? According to this local St. Louis article seen here at StLToday.com Karl White made his position clear on where he stood. Read below.

----Quoted ----

Karl White, director of the National Center for Hearing Assessment and Management at Utah State University, said EHDI participants recognize deafness as a culture that "doesn't need to be fixed." But he said EHDI programs make sure that parents of deaf children know their options, which might include cochlear implants.

----end quote----

You can't get any more simpler than that, I don't think.

Now, what part don't you understand? (asking the big "D" deaf militants) What were you rallying for? Help me understand something here. Don't tell me you're rallying because you believe that there is a conspiracy going on. You're going to have to do better than that.

  1. they wanted attention because they're afraid of deaf culture demise.

  2. That's what I thought ob. But that does not give them the right to remove other options for the parents and their child.

  3. For those who see the 'but' word as a cancellation of what he said before that.... don't. Think & read carefully.

The word 'but' was written in by the editor. Karl never said the 'but' word. Furthermore, the word 'but' does not cancel everything that was said before but rather 'except for the fact'.

  4. Only 40 protesters was in St.Louis, MO last weekend then all rest of 4.81 million of deaf and hard of hearing people were busy with their lives like I do today. Go figure.

  6. You know what's really ironic? The video on DeafYouVideo says "only 4" presenters represented ASL/English bilingualism. As if that was evidence that EHDI and Karl White rejects Deaf people and ASL.

I can guess why there were so few workshops about ASL/English bilingualism? Whenever a conference is planned, the organization (EHDI for example) sends out a call for papers several months before. Deaf people who want to give workshops on ASL/English bilingualism and its benefits for Deaf babies can submit an abstract of a paper for a blind review panel. it shouldn't be a problem getting one's proposal accepted. If John Egbert can get accepted, anyone can.

I feel that Karl White would welcome Deaf people that promote ASL to participate in the conference, instead of protesting.

just my two cents. Next year EHDI is in Glendale, AZ, FYI.

  7. Hi Lavender. I agree. Most of us are living a great life. These small number of protesters are reflection of failures that are out there. Oh, let me guess... they are going to call me an aufist because I said it.

  9. Hi ASL_HeartandSoul. I have a real question on who really represents ASL/English bilingualism. There are many radical militant deaf people who claim to represent a lot of things, including ALL deaf people. This part is hilarious. I've communicated directly with Karl White and gotten to know him. He's a really decent person. He's a very intelligent and warm person. He embraced my choice of language (sign language) and he wanted to understand us. Having said this I know for a fact he does not reject ASL / bilingualism.

And then, as you pointed out... it takes time to submit a plan prior to attending just about any conference. EHDI would have no problem allowing us in just like they let this militant John Egbert come in and have his own booth. Anyone could do it if they followed the process. I know for a fact that Karl White would welcome that. But to protest so without due process is an embarrassment to the deaf community.

  10. It seems that John Egbert is the smartest guy than any of those protesters!!! What a shame of them entering the hospital and the school grounds. That's a big embarrassment to all of us. Thanks for the post.

  11. I respectfully disagree Deafgoldenhair about John Egbert. He is not smart at all. He is the one that founded DBC which founded AFA. He's the father of this embarrassment you spoke of. In fact, if you followed some of the recent videos he was cheering on for these AFA people and EHDI nearly boot him out for posting an inappropriate banners at the meeting. Smart? You have my assurance that he isn't.
